genwaabiigigwed: people tend to think of cultural appropriation as just something that shows a lack of respect, but it’s much more than that. dreamcatchers everywhere, “navajo” printed blankets. all being made and sold by non natives. some of these things are a large part of some nations income. by non native people making and selling these items, they are not only ripping off the buyer, who is not getting an “authentic native american bracelet”, they are taking revenue away from nations. not to mention, selling something as “authentic made by native americans” when it isn’t is a violation of the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990.
